Yard sales are not uncommon for unemployed people. In fact, after getting laid off, one of the first things they embark on (before succumbing to unemployment laziness) is finally getting around to some spring cleaning, and holding a yard sale to sell off their unwanted goods. When they were employed and wanted to get rid of stuff, they were more likely to post it in Craiglist’s free section rather than going through the hassle of actually trying to complete a sale because their free time was more valuable. But without a job, they’re suddenly able to see potential value in everything, and will attempt to get top dollars for their junk. Sure, time might equal money, but even better is money equals money.
Because the unemployed have so much time on their hands they’re able to continue holding yard sales until every last possible item is sold. Once they get a taste of haggling with their neighbors, they sort of become addicted to the thrill of the sale. Eventually the unemployed have to stop selling off family heirlooms or their roommates’ clothing and find new things to sell. Craigslist’s free section, of course, is a haven for all things junky and used – or in rarer instances, new items that their current owners can’t be bothered to sell (see above). The unemployed take to trolling Craigslist in the hope for some gems and will go to great lengths to collect the goods, no matter how inconvenient they may be in terms of size or location. After amassing enough eclectic junk items, the unemployed will hold yet another yard sale – but from someone else’s yard (while they’re at work) due to frequent complaints from neighbors who claim the yard sales are degrading the property value of the neighborhood. The best part about this is for whatever they can’t sell, and whatever they can’t bother to haul away, the unemployed can just post a free listing on Craigslist and give other unemployed folk a chance to get some new goods to sell.

I did this!! And made $30! But my employed neighbors made $100+ selling $.50 ice cube trays and $.25 pairs of jeans.
lol! I’d do this, but I don’t think I need to get stuff off Craigslist to be able to have a huge yard sale!
Whoa – I JUST posted on my blog about the yard sale I’m having! But selling the free stuff from CL, now THERE’S an idea…

I became unemployed in March of 2009. Have been flipping bikes on craigslist and making 11K-13K per month profit. This is twice as much as I made at my day job. People have to wake up and stop going to a job they hate and make money on their own terms.
We are conditioned from a young age that we have to go to school find a good job. Well things are changing and the unemployed individuals with ambition will be making more than corporate drones going to work 9-5.
Have fun 9 to 5ers
