i_heart_love_flannel_pajamas1Some days it just makes sense to stay in your pajamas all day when unemployed. What’s the point of getting dressed in uncomfortable clothing when all you’re planning on doing is staying in the bed or on the couch all day? On certain days, like when you’re expecting a package from UPS or FedEx, you’ll put on your “fancy” pajamas which are essentially just lazy pants (a cross between yoga pants and sweat pants) and a zip up hoodie. But on other days when it’s just you, crappy daytime television, and a frozen dinner for lunch, you whip out your trusty flannel pajamas and lavish in the joy of being an unemployed but comfortable scrub. There’s only a little bit of shame in knowing how much your significant other hates your guts as he/she gets dressed in business casual, looks over at your sleeping, pajama-clad self, and knows that’s what you’ll still be wearing when he/she comes home from a day of work.

So when the time comes to finally go out into the world, whether it’s to go to the laundromat to wash your pajamas, or meet up with a friend for lunch, or get dragged out of the house kicking and screaming to some social event, there’s just something so sad about shedding your soiled pajamas for normal clothes. What once was a part of every day life becomes a burden - having to find a shirt that matches your pants, pair your socks together, or find non-embarrassing underwear. Chances are you’ll feel inclined to shower too, and that just takes away from sitting or lying down time. It might actually feel good to feel normal again, but you can’t deny that part of you just wants to retreat back to your place for your favorite flannels.

Hahaha this is soooo true. I don’t work and I’m in grad school - but I only have classes two days a week… I spend hours complaining about having to get dressed and look human when I go to school!

I absolutely love spending the entire day on the couch (which is also my bed)!

While going from fetal position (ideal for early in the AM before the radiator turns on), to completely prone (for email and Facebook), to indian-style (video games, hulu, counts as “getting up”), and back to fetal (nap-time!) all week is heavenly, I also do enjoy occasionally getting up to shower and getting out of the house just to remind myself how scary the world still is. The feeling of the wind blowing through my hair as I run back up the stairs toward my couch is almost as exciting as closing my eyes and going back into fetal position.

I see your flannel pajamas, and raise you an adult-size onesie with feet…
