For some unknown reason, unemployed people continue to complain about “rising gas prices” despite the fact that prices per gallon have drastically crashed along with the rest of the economy after hitting peak prices in 2008. It’s as if their minds are stuck in a time warp, back to when they were employed and had jobs to commute to and from in their gas guzzling, overpriced SUVs. But now, gas prices are finally reasonable especially compared to the rest of the world who’s not sleeping with the enemy. You’d never know it by listening to the unemployed fools who still blab about the “high cost of fuel” like a broken record even though being rendered jobless by the bad economy leaves them with no work to commute to, greatly limiting the time and money spent on the road.
Being unemployed costs a lot of money because time previously spent trapped in the office is now killed with excursions to restaurants, movies theaters, and shopping malls. So instead of being truthful about not having money for activities, the unemployed will make excuses that it costs too much to drive these days, something they still believe even though driving is sometimes more affordable than public transportation. Or, they suddenly have a penchant for being green and reducing their carbon footprints to save the environment, and cite that along with rising gas prices as reasons they refuse to drive anywhere. Chances are they’re blaming the cost of gas when in reality they just can’t be bothered to get themselves out of bed and be presentable after having gotten so comfortable sitting around doing nothing all day. Either that, or they’ve been unemployed for so long that they’re completely disconnected from reality and are reverting to what used to be water cooler conversation fodder by sheer habit.
