There are several reasons the unemployed are ignoring the hoopla surrounding the Economic Recovery Stimulus Plan (if that’s even the official name of it). It’s not so much that they don’t care about it, they just don’t care to try to figure out what’s going with the whole thing. Why concentrate on thinking about what Obama’s plan to jump start the economy with this magical 838 bajillion dollars means when time can be spent on what it probably doesn’t mean. Sure, the US Senate may have passed the plan, but until someone provides a bullet point list of what the benefits are going to be for the unemployed, they’re going to remain silent about the whole issue and refuse to obtain the knowledge needed to form an opinion. A nice example of what the unemployed would like to see before they care is:
- The Economic Stimulus Plan will repeat the stimulus checks that were sent out in 2008, but with bigger amounts now that we have admitted there’s a recession.
- The Economic Stimulus Plan will guarantee that unemployment benefits will not be cut off regardless of escalating state debts and will leave room for increasing unemployment check amounts.
- The Economic Stimulus Plan will create millions of high paying jobs with plentiful furloughs and hire managers who will turn a blind eye to being unproductive because they are bitter about their $500,000 salary cap.
- The Economic Stimulus Plan will let the old and poor lose television reception and not replenish the depleted digital converter box fund in favor of providing subsidized coupons for flat screen TVs, blu ray DVD players, game consoles, and other home entertainment systems for those who are clearly not interested in being employed.
Until these details are released by Congress, the unemployed will continue to play circus music in their heads and act like everything is peachy.

I do feel for the truly unemployeed that lost thier jobs in the last few months, but there are people out there that haven’t found jobs because they don’t care to look or take a pay cut. Some money is better than no money. I’ve been trying to get a business off the ground for 2 years and haven’t taken a pay check. Is it hard? You Bet! But I believe in the future I’ll be successful and get to help people with my products so for the time being I’ll keep trying. I’ve cut back on alot of nonessential things but I always come up with enough to pay my bills.Unemployment is suppose to be a stop-gap not a way to make a living.

I do respect to your personal opinion(s) and quakerlike work ethic, but my only regret going into this recession is that I didn’t bother to find a job before sh*t went down, and now I don’t qualify for unemployment. While I do agree with you that “[s]ome money is better than no money,” I also believe that “some money is better when absolutely no work is involved as a requisite for receiving some money!”
Seriously, though, I hope your business does take off soon and you can finally sit back and watch the $$$ fill your pockets faster than those 2 girls filled that little cup and each other’s mouths with chocolate soft-serve or whatever that was.
I can honestly agree with Johnita, but I recently lost my job 5 days ago and I have been sick to death over it…I am a single person supporting myself and have a mortgage etc… I said the same thing when I was employed as you did…Now i’m on the other side of the fence and spent 6 hours yesterday looking for a job until I was nautious.
I am scared now I cannot afford COBRA, nor can I afford the hospital bills from being sick.
This country is falling apart!!!
