game_consolesAt a time when consumerism is down, and the public is urged to spend, the unemployed are the only ones listening, and how! Gaming is still on the rise with game consoles and games ($50 each) selling like hotcakes. When faced with the reality that they’re suddenly going to gain eight hours a day, the newly unemployed are checking their mailboxes daily for that first glorious government check, so they can pick up an Xbox 360 ($199 and up), Playstation 3 ($399 and up), Nintendo Wii ($249), or handheld systems such as the PSP ($169) and DS Lite ($129). And if they’re smart, they’ll head to their local Circuit City to take advantage of liquidation sales, helping to rot America one discount at a time. So that means, for those who already had a PS 3, the first unemployment check could be used on an Xbox 360. And why not spend the next payunemployment check on some more lighthearted fun, aka the Nintendo Wii? Go over to any recently laid off person’s home (assuming they haven’t been evicted) and you’re almost guaranteed to find at least one new game console, and a sweat stained permanent groove in the couch.

For some, the lack of work only reverses their situation of gaming through the night and sleeping through the job. Finally, someone answered their prayers and allowed them to collect free money, and game all day, every day, quickly picking up new “friends” to play with on the internet. Whatever money is leftover from the unemployment fund is used to purchase ramen, which is eaten raw, because food is only for sustenance – there are only 24 hours in a day, and them hours need to be spent gaming! So next time you see a pale creature with bags under their eyes wandering around with unwashed hair and ramen-stained clothes, thank him or her for taking an active role in turning the economy around.

You website made unemployment sound so awesome that I just walked into my boss’s office yesterday and quit.

I probably should have done some more research on the requirements for unemployment, cuz now I have no job and no money, and I don’t qualify for unemployment. When my girlfriend found out my plan had flopped, she dumped me. I hate you. I HATE you.

It’s okay. Sometimes I hate myself too. Usually when all my clothes are dirty, including what’s usually reserved for laundry day.

LOL. I do all this and I’m employed. Soon to be unemployed. There are several games I have not had time for. I’m ready. LOL. Just kidding.

I plan to make good use of my “time off” improving myself, expanding my horizons and finding a new career.
