Government bailouts, economic stimulus packages, and rising deficits have been the non-stop jibber jabber of the last six months but have been largely ignored by the unemployed because yeah, it has something to do with why they lost their jobs, but the government is giving out free money, so what do they care? Then bits and pieces of scary information started floating through, like California’s Governator Arnold Schwarzenegger warning of state bankruptcy, $42 billion in debt, and withholding tax refunds. If people aren’t even going to get their hard earned money back from the state, what are the unemployed to do about the money they’ve earned by sitting around twiddling their thumbs? Pray. And pray hard that the next time they get that ever-so-regular unemployment check they won’t find this IOU instead:

My son is receiving unemployment because he is in the construction trade and it 500 on the list. He has been applying everywhere but has not been called back. I am a little frantic since I am a single mother and he helps me with the rent. I can’t do it on my own and with the money he gets from the unemployment we are barely surviving. I think the Govenor should stop punishing the poor unemployed people because he is upset at his officials for not doing what he wants. Sure he is not affected since he is rich as it is but have a little common decentcy for the poor people trying to live in this screwed up California. They should of never recalled the former Govenor who was doing a great job and we did not have all the problems we have now. Maybe next time Californian will elect an experienced leader instead of a so called Actor to do the job.
