Job searching is "tough"

Job searching is "tough"

There’s a bunch of people running around flipping out about getting employed because it’s been so long since they’ve had to look that they’ve forgotten how to apply for a job. We’re talking about people ranging from fat, balding execs to complacent recluses who’ve settled with staying with a company because “the benefits were decent” and frankly, they couldn’t be bothered to take the steps towards life improvement. Suddenly their goal is to befriend the neighbor they never say hi to, who they vaguely recall working in Human Resources, in hopes of finding advice about how to write a cover letter and make your resume stand out. After sending out hundreds of resumes these guys are getting responses and realizing they don’t have a clue of how to be interviewed for a job they sort of remember applying for but have no idea what it’s about because it’s in a completely different industry but they applied anyway because it was available, and it paid more than minimum wage. These kinds of unemployed people will tell anyone and everyone just how tough it is to suddenly be in the job pool again after banking on ye olde gold watch for 20+ years.

The thing that drives me nuts is the people who have jobs that try to tell you how to look for a job and they think you aren’t trying hard enough. I’ve been unemployed before. I know what to do and how to do it. Looking for a job is a full-time job. Yes if I could get a part-time job that would be great but then I won’t have as much time to look for a full-time job. It’s a catch 22 and people don’t get that. I want to punch someone in the face if they asked me if I looked on Craiglist or went door to door whoring myself out.

It is not a full time job. That’s silly denial. It’s part time. If you are spending more than 2 to 3 days per week job searching, you are not focused.
